- Flap fitting time !
With
the aileron bolted on, I created the wooden tool that is specified
in the plans to align the aileron into its neutral position.
Two tool holes in the main rib are used for this and a central
reference line to align the aileron. A few turns on the
short push rod later and it was done.
Next job on the agenda was
setting the flaps in the right position. The gap between
aileron and flap must be a minimum of 3/16; so as long as a
3/16 drill will run between the sheets without too much slack that
would do for me. Too much of a gap has to add the drag
coefficient after all.
This job took a while to be honest, a bit fiddly when the flap
brace wants to push the inboard end high thus not giving a level
line across the top of the wing. After a while it was
straight, level and with the correct gap. Out comes the drill,
deburring tools and dimpler.
The wing piano hinge requires countersinking just
like on the flap; but this had not been primed yet, so it was a
dash off to Bob's to get that done so I can make a start on
putting the bottom skins on tomorrow.

The piano hinges require trimming as well obviously

Full flap on approach into Derby !! well ...
I had to take that photo surely ??
